Dear Nigerian Government, #EndSars Now Before it Ends us

Dear Nigerian Government, #EndSars Now Before it Ends us

I woke up just like you to the shocking news of the death of Mr. Kolade Johnson a promising Nigerian youth. The innocent victim of unfortunate circumstance was shot dead at the spot by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad. Now read that line again, this time remove “Anti”. Yeah, you get now.

He was killed by a trigger happy police man, a bloody police man!  This didn’t happen in Texas or California, No! It happened to a Nigerian in Nigeria. The sudden resurface of these destructive elements (at least that is what they look like) has suddenly increased fear, anarchy and doom. For Godsake how do you shoot a civilian who has done absolutely nothing?  I don’t understand sir, you are supposed to be protecting this same people! Taxpayers monies are used to give you a life and you decide to kill and destroy the same taxpayer? Even when its obvious that you are not doing the job you where contracted to do? Nigeria is a funny place you know?

We have so many security issues begging  for serious attention and these gallant officers decide to invest their full energy on the people? What is preventing them from entering Sambisa and displaying these braveness of thiers?? If someone told me we would come back to these issue of End SARS, I would have doubted even more than Thomas. For Christ Sake, why in heaven's name are we still trending #EndSars hastags in 2019. This is supposed to be our miraculous year of Next Level upliftment, what went wrong?

We entered a new year with the police led by IGP  Mohammed Adamu  ordering the immediate  decentralization of SARS, which before the current development, was centralized at the Force Headquarters. In a nutshell, the SARS UNIT was placed back under the control of States Police Commissioners.  Basically, the struggle for the reform of the police force  went back to square one. . One step forward, two steps backward, this is a typical Nigeria developmental pattern. These was condemned by many Nigerians but of course the government is deaf and dumb so you don’t expect it to say or do anything about it.

Today look at where we have found ourselves, young Nigerian youths are been killed randomly this time not by cultists, hoodlums or even armed robbers, how do I take this gist to the market square that the police are the killers of these youths? Like they would think I have gone nuts! How do you explain these to the international community, what do you make of your security agencies in the eye of the world?

We are obviously making a joke of ourselves in this country. Cant you see it?  We are becoming not just the poverty capital but then the comedy central of the world. Its funny how we have thrown caution to the winds by arming the police to suppress the people. It’s a move that will definitely boomerang, the plan would bounce back, it would hit the woodwork. And If care is not taken cause a conflagration that would be too hard for the state to handle. A social contract has been infringed upon, as a mater of fact, one of the parties have rendered the contract useless.

The party  vested with the primary duty of protecting lives and properties (The government) have failed to keep up with the terms of the contract. Okay before I go further, the contract is basically an agreement that we(citizens) will freely hand our collective security to the hands of government, inturn they are to use that power we invested in them to protect us. This contract as it all seems now has been faulted and if care is not taken can lead to a total state of breakdown of law and order.

The truth is that we need to #EndSars , I don’t just mean end alone like close the damnn unit! Why should we be talking about police brutality when our troops are losing the battle to terrorist in the north east? Armed Herdsmen are on rampage and we have officers who just sit in Lagos and shoot innocent civilians? What is the meaning of that nonsense???  Something needs to be done urgently to that unit if the security of Nigeria is of any importance to its leadership. I want to assure the perpetuators that the blood of Kolade Johnson will not dry unrevenged!
